Tierra Sagrada
Mexican Traditional Medicine
When we arrived in Oaxaca in 1997, we knew very little about its people, traditions, and Indigenous cultures. Yet Oaxaca welcomed us with an open heart and slowly became our greatest teacher.
As we began working with Indigenous communities through ecotourism, we were inspired by their deep connection to the land, their knowledge of medicinal plants, and their understanding that the visible and invisible worlds are deeply intertwined. Through friendships with healers, midwives, elders, and wisdom keepers, a new way of seeing life opened before us.
Our own healing journey began when we met Elizabeth Mattern Alcazar who became an important guide and mentor. She taught us that healing is not only about the body, but also about releasing the fears, sadness, and patterns we carry through generations. Through years of personal healing, ceremony, and learning, we discovered that transformation is a lifelong path.
In 2019, following a vision received by Elizabeth, Tierra Sagrada was born. It became a natural expression of everything we had experienced and learned over more than two decades of living in Oaxaca.
When Elizabeth was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, another door opened. Through sacred plant ceremonies, we entered a deeper exploration of healing and consciousness. These experiences profoundly transformed our understanding of ourselves, our connection to the natural world, and the mystery of life itself. They continue to inspire our personal path and the work we share with our community and our growing cosmic family.
When Elizabeth passed away in 2024, a new chapter began. Her departure challenged us to step forward more fully into our own roles. Today, both of us continue this path in our own unique ways. Yves creates spaces of healing through his deep connection to the land, natural building, ceremony, and traditional practices.
He builded his dream Rancho Media Luna.
Claudia serves as a bridge between worlds, accompanying people through ritual, healing, and reconnection with ancestral wisdom.
We do not see ourselves as teachers. We are fellow travelers, bridge builders, and wayshowers who share what life, the land, and our teachers have generously shared with us.
“Today, these teachings continue to guide us and form an important part of what we share with our community and our cosmic family.”
Through Tierra Sagrada, we honor the wisdom of the Indigenous peoples, support the preservation of ancestral knowledge, and create spaces where people can reconnect with themselves, with nature, and with the sacred.
