Mountain Reconnection
Journey of Cleansing, Connection & Ancestral Paths in the Sierra Norte
Journey: Outer Journey - The Horizon
A 4-day reconnecting with yourself.
This multi-day journey invites you into the mountains of the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca — a landscape of forests, ancient pathways, healing traditions, and sacred places. Moving between ceremony, walking, community encounters, and moments of stillness, we follow both inner and outer paths of connection.
Day 1
Cleansing Ceremony & Temazcal at Rancho Media Luna
We begin at our home, Rancho Media Luna, with a traditional cleansing ceremony — an intentional opening to release what no longer serves and create space for clarity, presence, and renewal.
The ritual is followed by a temazcal, an ancestral steam bath guided with herbs, song, and intention. Inside the warm, womb-like space, you are invited to reconnect with your breath, your body, and the surrounding natural world.
This gentle yet powerful beginning prepares us for the mountains and for the experiences waiting along the path.
Day 2
Plant Medicine Walk in San Antonio Cuajimoloyas · Overnight in Santa Martha Latuvi
We travel into the highlands of the Sierra Norte and enter the pine forests of Cuajimoloyas, where we are welcomed by Ester — healer of her community and part of our extended family through years of shared experiences and connection.
Walking together through her ancestral territory, we learn about medicinal plants and the traditional knowledge that continues to live through daily practice and relationship with the land.
One of the highlights of the day is sharing a meal prepared by Marta Contreras, traditional cook of the community, whose food reflects the same understanding that nourishes this journey: food is also medicine.
Later, we continue to Latuvi and spend the night in community cabins surrounded by mountain silence.
Day 3
Walking the Ancestral Trading Path · Overnight in Santa Catarina Lachatao
After breakfast, we start a 14 km hike from Santa Martha Latuvi to Lachatao following part of an ancient pre-Hispanic trading route — a path once connecting communities through exchange, movement, and ceremony.
This is more than a hike. As we walk through forests and mountain landscapes, we experience another rhythm of travel: slower, more attentive, and deeply connected to place.
Upon arrival in Lachatao, we settle into the community and rest in one of the most historically and spiritually significant villages of the Sierra Norte.
Day 4
The Sacred Hill of the Jaguar · Return to Oaxaca
Our final day is dedicated to visiting the sacred Hill of the Jaguar in Lachatao — an ancient ceremonial site that today is once again honored by the community through equinox celebrations and gatherings.
Over the years, this place has become deeply meaningful to us, and we have held many ceremonies here. The ascent itself becomes a ritual — an invitation into silence, presence, and connection with the mountain.
For those who feel called, this final day can optionally include a private ceremony on the Hill of the Jaguar with sacred plant medicine, held in an intimate and carefully prepared setting. These ceremonies are approached with deep respect for local traditions and are offered as spaces for reflection, intention, and connection.
If this option is chosen, we remain an additional night in the mountains to allow time for integration, rest, and quiet presence after the ceremony. We return to Oaxaca the following morning after breakfast, honoring the importance of moving gently and allowing the experience to settle before re-entering daily life.
This journey is for those who seek not only to explore the mountains, but to walk in relationship with the land, its people, and the ancestral pathways that continue to live through them.
